Hickory Nines

I've negleted our blog for the past few months due to being involved with an awesome project called Hickory Nines.  Hickory Nines is a lifestyle blog set up by a good friend in Bude and I was lucky enough to be asked to be one of the contributers.  There is an amazing cross section of contributers from those involved in the surfing and music industry

The website is up and running with content being added daily and if you haven't seen it check yet it out here.

Up untill a few weeks ago we had an amazing run of surf down here in the west country and despite being injured for the whole month it did give me an opportunity to get out and take some photographs.

Here are just a couple which I toom on a rare visit to Newquay!!

Outdoor Adventure Schools Surf Comp

We were stoked to be asked to sponsor a local schools competition in association with Outdoor Adventure a few weeks ago.  Held at Widemouth Bay, you couldn't get better conditions for any competition - 2-3ft, sunny and offshore winds!!  Helping out with the judging it was the perfect day to be sat at the beach, although hard at times to watch the waves it was worth it at the end with a great little surf!!

With 2 events running, an intermediate tag team event as well as an advanced surf comp it was a busy day with 70 children involved.  Budehaven school took out all the honours with wins in the tag team event as well as Jobe Harris winning the boys event and Emilly Currie taking the girls.

A great day was had by all, roll on next year!!

Tiny Tip Time

It is always a struggle to get some footage of yourself surfing - no surfer wants to stand on the beach when there are waves!  I was lucky enough to get a friend to stand around on the beach for 30 minutes a couple of weeks ago andhere is the result.  Perfect little waves rolling in, with not too many people out - it was a fun session.

Summer Swell

There hasn't been much clean surf around this summer - lots of windy days with choppy waves!  Yesterday was the first clean swell we have had for a while and being small it was very busy at Widemouth Bay but there was a few nice waves rolling in!

Although it was a weak swell it was worth a play on a log and if you searched you could find an uncrowded peak!

I hope you found yours!

I Surf Because.....

The Billabong series of short videos  'I surf beacuse' are an amazing insight into the lifes of certain professional surfers.

This one from surfer turned musician Donavon Frankenreiter is a particular favourite of ours and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have - check out the others on Billabong's Youtube page

Widemouth Local - Joss Ash

Nice little video from Widemouth Bay local Joss Ash who is sponsored by Volcom from his travels in Indonesia this winter.

Its nice to see the guys who have been away all winter surfing in warmer climates get back to the UK and still rip even though they have to wear a wetsuit and get back in colder water.

Summer feels like its started with sun and surf all weekend, Bude has been stunning today so I hope you got out in the water or in the sunshine wherever you are

Spring Is Here!!

The sun is out, the air is just starting to feel warm and I am easily convinced that spring is finally starting to show iteslf.  Cornwall has suprisingly had surf for the past few weeks and I have had to sit on the sidelines and watch after having an operation on my arm

Whilst sat at home it gave me a chance to go through a few old tapes of film that I had recorded and forgotton about.  I found some nice footage of some of the local lifeguards and Surf Coaches from Outdoor Adventure surfing a quiet little reef, filmed last October it reminded me of the summer in Cornwall and how much of an awesome place it is to live.

Roll on Spring!!

February Surf

So the surf has been pumping for the last few weeks although a lot of the time it has been pretty big and meaty.  Everyone is waiting for tomorrow as a big swell is heading our way and poking my head out of my door, it sounds as if it is already here!

I will be sitting and watching though as at the moment I am recovering from an operation on my arm, nothing serious but still it means a few weeks out of the water.  The last surf I had was Wednesday 9th February and here are a few pictures form that day, a little secret spot that only works on the right tide.

If you manage to get in tomorrow enjoy personally I'm going to head out and and take some pictures

The Greatest Snowboard Video of all Time!

Although it was a few years ago, when i was living in the Alps this was the video to watch.  Night after night we sat in front of the TV idolising Terje and his snowboarding.  We memorised his tweaks and practiced backside airs in the pipe, this is the man who changed snowboarding into what it is today.

This clip is from the greatest snowboard movie back then and indeed of all tim, enjoy and turn it up loud!
